John and his family work seven days a week to produce award-winning artisan cheeses like you’ve never tasted before.

Since establishment, Wicklow Farmhouse Cheese has won numerous awards for its cheese over the years, including Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards in worldwide competitions and the Silver Award for Best Irish Cheese in the World Cheese Awards 2010 for the Wicklow Baun Brie. John’s Wicklow Baun & his selection of Cheddars have also won awards in the Nantwich Cheese Awards , winiing the Gold Award for the Wicklow Blue for the continental cheese, also winning the silver award for the Best Irish Cheese for the Wicklow Blue. In 2009 John's Wicklow nettle & chive cheddar won the Gold award for the cheese with additives.

Wicklow Farmhouse Cheese is a family owned business established in 2005. The Hempenstall family farm lies between Croghan Mountain and the Irish Sea at Curranstown, Arklow, Co.Wicklow just 2km from the East Coast. John and his family before him have been farming here for generations. Only milk from the farm Friesian herd is used to make these creamy delicious cheeses. The proximity to the sea adds a distinctive flavour all of its own to these seductively addictive cheeses.
